Prunus domestica ‘Herman’ is one of the earliest plums to ripen in the UK, producing generous crops of dark red-purple fruit from mid to late July. If you’re eager for that first orchard harvest of the season, ‘Herman’ rarely disappoints.
In spring, the tree is covered in white blossom, providing a valuable early nectar source for bees and other pollinators. As summer advances, richly coloured plums develop – sweet, juicy, and excellent eaten fresh straight from the tree.
‘Herman’ is partially self-fertile and known for its reliability, making it a strong choice for wildlife-friendly gardens and home orchards. Like all plum trees, it contributes to biodiversity through blossom, fruit, and the sheltered canopy it forms over time.
Best planted in full sun in moist but well-drained soil.
Supplied as an established tree in a 12 litre container.
Eventual size: approx. 3–4m tall and wide (depending on rootstock and pruning).
A wonderfully productive early plum that brings both wildlife value and summer flavour.
